The Buffalo Bison started slow but overtook the Rogers Royals 62-54 on Tuesday evening in Rogers.
Dominic Gilmer, 6-4 forward, potted 19 points, while 6-2 guard Ethan Freer had 18 points and 6-4 forward Peter Cassady 14 for the perennial Mississippi 8 champion Bison.
Rogers led 7-0 and 14-3 but was up by just 29-28 at the half. Buffalo vaulted into a 39-29 edge after the break with an 11-0 run including two 3-pointers.
The Bison bottled up Rogers 6-8 post Michael Schreiber, holding him to 10 points, 12 below his average, along with 6-7 forward Josh Turnquist, who had nine points, six below his average. Nathan Roehl was next with seven for Rogers.
The loss was Rogers’ first in Mississippi 8 play. The Royals are 2-1 in conference and 8-5 overall.
Buffalo is 3-1 in conference and 7-6 overall. The Bison’s rare conference loss came against Big Lake 47-43. Leading the Mississippi 8 is St. Michael-Albertville (Buffalo’s next opponent) at 3-0.
Rogers will host Big Lake on Friday.
