Hockey: Elk boys coast past St. Francis 8-0

Two freshman tallied their first varsity goals to get Elk River-Zimmerman started, and the Elks went on to beat St. Francis 8-0 at home Thursday.
Peter Jones and Briggs Leadens gave the Elks a 2-0 lead in the non-conference game.
Andrew Zerban knocked in two goals, one of them shorthanded. He leads the Elks with 13 goals. Nick McCormack also scored twice, one of them on a power play. Jared McKlaughlin and Mitch Kiersad had the other goals.
Austin Larson, Kierstad, McLaughlin and Jake Jaremko made two assists each.
The Elks (8-5-1) had a 48-21 edge in shots on the Saints (4-10). Anders Franke made 11 saves and backup Cam Korlath made 10.
ERZ will play at Andover on Saturday at 3 p.m.
