Basketball: Park Center clips Elk boys 82-71
Elk River’s tenure as a co-leader in the NWSC race was short-lived as the Elks lost to Park Center 82-71 at home Thursday evening.
The Elks (7-5 overall) were one of four teams with a loss each after beating Andover 70-69 on Tuesday while Osseo and Maple Grove each lost for the first time.
Now Osseo and Champlin Park are 6-1, Maple Grove 5-1, Centennial 6-2 and the Elks 5-2.
Park Center was led by Treyta Daniels with 22 points, Quinton Hooker with 21, and Isaiah McKay with 17. Hooker, a 6-foot junior guard, pushed over 1,000 career points in the game.
Park Center (3-4 conference, 6-5 overall) shot 7-for-16 on 3-pointers. The Elks struggled at 5-for-22 and the Pirates did a good job keeping the Elks on the perimeter.
Elk soph center Clay Elrod sank 21 points, shooting 9-for-15 including two 3-pointers. Tucker Morrell scored 12, and Landon Werner and Porter Morrell 10 each.
The Elks will play at Champlin Park on Tuesday.
