Wrestling: Elks tie Crimson but lose by criteria

The Elk River wrestlers lost by criteria after rallying to tie Maple Grove 33-33 on Thursday in Maple Grove.

Pins by Jake Brown in his varsity debut at 182 and by Mitch Beaudry at 195, and a forfeit at 285, helped pull the Elks even on the scoreboard.

However, the Crimson got the victory because they won eight matches and the Elks won six.

The Elks also got pins by Kyle Ziemer at 126 and  Ryan Osberg at 145 and on overtime 7-5 win by Evan Caldon at 132.

The Elks dropped to 1-5 in conference and 1-8 overall. Maple Grove is 2-1 and 3-1.

Next for Elk River is the Cambridge-Isanti tournament on Saturday.
