Elk River demolishes two downtown buildings
Two buildings in downtown Elk River were demolished this week. The Elk River Housing and Redevelopment Authority bought the buildings at 716 and 720 Main Street in 2006 intending to eventually demolish them for parking. They were razed now after engineering concerns surfaced about the stability of the roof of 720 Main. The demolition was done by Veit and Co., which was the low bidder on the project at $59,600.

Equipment ripped into the front of the former Arts Alliance headquarters at 716 Main on Thursday morning, Jan. 5.

Heavy equipment worked at the site Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 4. Elk River Meats is the edge of the building on the left.
