Basketball: Elk girls trip Becker 59-31, reach Monticello finals
The Elk River girls earned a shot at a holiday championship by drubbing the Becker Bulldogs 59-31 on Wednesday evening in the semifinals of the eight-team Monticello tournament.
Senior center Victoria Jenson led with 11 points and senior forward Mikayla Macomber added nine as the Elks had nine players in the scoring column.
The Elks, who beat Minneapolis Washburn 58-42 on Tuesday, squared their record at 4-4 with their fourth straight win.
They face host Monticello (5-4) in the finals, 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The Magic beat Dassel-Cokato 55-51.
The Elks have played in the Monticello tournament since 2006 without winning it. They were runners-up last year behind Providence Academy, which did not return this year.
