Basketball: Elk boys fade in 2nd half, lose to Highlanders 61-49

Elk River lost its first-round game to Columbia Heights 61-49 on Wednesday in the Tartan Holiday Tournament.

The Elks led 24-21 at halftime, but were not shooting well throughout the game, and the Highlanders came alive for 40 points in the second half.

Deon Sanstad sank 16 points, Matt Kourouma 14 and Christian Esko 10 for Columbia Heights (2-3).

Clay Elrod notched 11 points and Landon Werner nine for the Elks (3-3).

In the consolation bracket Thursday, the Elks face Monticello (0-6) at 4:30 p.m.
