Basketball: Z-men thump Chargers 71-56, reach finals of home tourney

The Zimmerman Thunder, hosting their first holiday boys basketball tournament, will play in the championship game after defeating Dassel-Cokato 71-56 on Tuesday evening.

The Thunder (5-2) will meet coach Ben Kvidt’s home town, Detroit Lakes, for the trophy on Wednesday evening, tip-off 8 p.m. Detroit Lakes (4-2) beat St. Francis 62-45.

Junior 6-4 forward Jake Wilson led with 24 points, including a two-handed dunk in the second half. Kyle Connelly with 14 was next among 10 Thunder in the scoring column.

Isaac Anderson tallied 21 and Riley Schulte 15 for the Chargers (1-5).
