The Zimmerman Thunder repelled several rallies by the Andover Huskies and won 66-60 at home Thursday evening.
Nate Christensen with 14 points led the Thunder (4-3), who had seven players with six or more points.
Zimmerman led by as much as 11 in the second half, only to see the Huskies (0-6) get within two or three on three occasions.
“Our kids battled hard, and it was good to get a win heading into the holiday break,” said coach Ben Kvidt. “Andover is better than their record shows. They’ve played a lot of good teams.”
The Thunder made 21 of 29 free shots while hitting 20-for-43 from the field including 5-for-12 on three’s. Andover had a slight rebound edge.
Brady Johnson nailed 21 points and Devan Fellerman 20 for Andover.
Jake Wilson and Gavin Doppler netted 10 points each for Zimmerman. Kyle Connelly, Ethan Lunning and Corey Foyt had eight each, and Caleb Lunning six. Foyt made six assists and Caleb Lunning five. Rebound leaders were Christensen with seven, Ethan Lunning six, and Doppler five.
Next for the Thunder is their own holiday tournament. On Tuesday, St. Francis meets Detroit Lakes at 6 p.m. and the Thunder take on Dassel-Cokato at 8 p.m.
