Skiing: Elk boys 5th, girls 10th in big opening meet

The Elk River/Rogers ski team had a good opening meet in the freestyle portion of the Holiday Relays on Saturday at Trollhaugen in Dresser, WI.

The  Elk boys placed fifth among 42 teams in freestyle, otherwise known as skate. Jake Schroeder placed 8th,  Breck Hickman 16th, Max Riebel 31st and Nate Webster 38th among 217 skiers.

Irondale was team champion and Osseo’s Anders Evenson was individual winner.

The Elk girls placed 10th among 40 teams. Anna Haugen placed 32nd, Reece Hickman 41st, Mary Elmquist 43rd and Mallory Adams 57th among 138 skiers.
Wayzata was team champion, and Irondale’s Mattie Watts won individually.

In the classic race, the Elk girls were 25th among 36 teams, led by Maggie Hohlen in 53rd place and Emma Crane in 86th among 158. Wayzata, and Anoka’s Kayla Billet, were champs.

The Elk boys were 27th among 37 in the classic race, led by Ryan Shaw in 97th place among 156. Irondale won and had the individual winner in Bjorn Adelman.

In the relays format, the times of the four skiers are added up, and total time determines order of finish.
