Nick Jenson, St. Cloud State hockey defenseman from Rogers, notched a rare hat trick Saturday and was named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Jenson, a 6-foot, 193-pound sophomore, scored the Huskies’ first three goals in a 5-1 win over No. 15 ranked Denver at home Saturday, becoming the first Huskie defenseman to get the hat trick since Bret Hedican in 1991. In two games against Denver, including a 3-2 overtime loss Friday, Jenson blocked six shots and had a plus-two rating.
Jenson, who played two years for Green Bay in the USHL and was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings, has four goals and 10 assists in 20 games for the Huskies (5-6-3 WCHA, 7-9-4 overall).
