Hockey: Elk boys trip Grand Rapids 3-2 in overtime
An overtime goal by Colton Budreau lifted Elk River-Zimmerman to a 3-2 win over Grand Rapids in their final game at the Edina Holiday Tournament on Saturday evening.
The Elks (5-2-1) were 1-1-1 in the round robin tourney, all against teams ranked in the top ten. They tied Eden Prairie 3-3 and lost to Edina 4-1.
Budreau, a sophomore defenseman, got his first goal of the season at 5:32 of the extra session, assisted by Jared Mclaughlin.
After two scoreless periods, each team punctured the net twice in the third, starting with Cody Mann connecing for Grand Rapids at 2:34.
The Elks scored twice in 54 seconds as Jake Jaremko tied it at 4:05 (assisted by Jaremko and Austin Larson), and McLaughlin put them ahead 3-2 at 4:59.
Avery Peterson regained a tie for Grand Rapids at 7:55.
Anders Franke made 37 saves for the Elks, who will host Osseo on Tuesday
