Facing the first of three section rivals on the schedule, Elk Rver-Zimmerman stymied Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 2-0 at home on Friday evening.

Despite a 40-17 domination in shots-on-goal, the Elks had to settle for  a goal by Jonna Curtis in the first period, assisted by Josie Brown, and one by Abby Kratzke in the third. Kratzke tapped in a rebound of a Curtis shot 3:38 into the period to finally give the Elks a two-goal cushion.

C-E-C goalie Alyssa Acheson knocked away 38 of 40 shots to keep the Lumberjacks (4-6-1). in the game. Elk goalie Tori Herrman stopped 17 shots to notch the shutout.

The defending Section 7AA champion Elks (7-1-1) will also play at Grand Rapids-Greenway on  Jan. 13 and at Duluth Northern Stars on Jan. 20.

The Elks are now off until the Centennial tournament Dec. 27-28-29.
