Basketball: Cambridge-Isanti holds off Rogers girls 52-51
The Rogers Royals rallied from 10 down in the second half but lost to Cambridge-Isanti 52-51 in their Mississippi 8 opener Thursday evening.
Senior guard Emily Reichert scored 23 points, including two free shots with a minute left that tied the score at 51.
A Bluejacket player made one of two free shots with :13 left. Rogers had multiple open shots in the closing seconds but could not connect.
Paige Muehlhauser, junior guard, poured in 25 points for the Bluejackets (4-2), who had a big rebounding edge.
Jordyn Motter added 10 for Rogers (4-2).
“The girls did a nice job battling back and having a chance to win it at the end,” said coach Jeremy Digiovanni, “and that’s something we hope we can build on going into the Elk River game Saturday.
The Royals will host the annual River Battle against Elk River on Saturday, boys at 5 p.m. and girls at 7 p.m.
