Basketball: Osseo girls wear down Elks 71-56

The Elk River girls had a good start against the state’s No. 2 ranked team but couldn’t keep it up as the Osseo Orioles beat them 71-56 at home Tuesday evening.

The Elks (0-4) stormed to a 25-12 lead before the Orioles scored 13 straight points to tie the score. A 3-pointer by Holly Skalsky gave the Elks one last lead, 28-26 at halftime. Osseo quickly scored twice off steals in the second half to take the lead, and outscored the hosts 35-18 in the second half.

Leading the Orioles were senior guard Mikayla Bailey with 20 points, junior forward Phyllis Webb with 19 and senior forward Olivia Antilla with 10.

Junior guard  Skalsky led the Elks with 12 points. Freshman guard Anna Rolag had 10.

The Elks will play at Coon Rapids on Thursday.
