Hockey: Blaine hands Elk boys first loss 3-1

The Blaine Bengals knocked Elk River-Zimmerman from the unbeaten ranks 3-1 on Saturday evening at Elk River Arena.
Nick McCormack put the Elks (4-1) on the scoreboard with a power play goal just 3:03 into the game, but Blaine goalie Nick Malvan would shut them down the rest of the way, making 28 saves.
Michael Brodzewski tied the score for Blaine (3-1) later in the first period, and Tyler Cline scored twice in the third period, including a power play.
Anders Frank, Elk goalie, stopped 28 of 31 shots. Blaine was 1-for-2 and the Elks 1-for-3 on the power play.
Next for the Elks will be the Edina holiday tournament, starting with Eden Prairie on Thursday at 6 p.m.
