Hockey: Elk girls thump North Metro 8-0

Unbeaten Elk River-Zimmerman finally had a breather on Saturday, cruising 8-0 over North Metro with three power play goals and one shorthanded.

The Elks (6-0-1) had a pair of 2-1 wins and a 5-5 tie in their previous three outingsĀ  before outshooting the Stars 57-11.

Jonna Curtis knocked in three more goals (including the shorthanded one) giving her 15 for the season, and made three assists.

Samantha Westgaard and Abbie Canton each notched their first goal. Josie Brown scored twice on the power play, and Madison Ellis had the other power play goal. Kaylee Forster made two assists and Cassey Petrich, Julia Miller, and Jordan McLaughlin one each.

The No. 7 ranked Elks are 6-0 in the NW Suburban, the lone unbeaten. They will host Anoka on Tuesday.
