Hockey: Totino-Grace tops Royal boys 5-2
The Rogers Royals lost to Totino-Grace 5-2 at home on Tuesday evening, falling to 1-2.
For the Eagles (2-1), Andrew McDonald notched two goals and an assist. Luke Mezzenga, Jeff Daugherty and Derek Lodermeier also scored. The Eagles got their five goals on just 17 shots. Their goalie Michael Larson stopped 22 of 24 shots.
Andrew Smith and Zach Hnath had the goals for Rogers. Keaton Mumm was in goal.
Rogers was 0-for-8 on power plays and gave up a goal on one of them (to Lodermeier). The Eagles were 1-for-8.
The Royals will host Bloomington Kennedy next Tuesday.
Royals lost to Mahtomedi 5-4
Mahtomedi got a game-winner from Johno May with 2:36 left and beat Rogers 5-4 on Saturday in Mahtomedi.
In a wild third period, Nick Nelson (power play) and Patrick Kegley (shorthanded) gave Mahtomedi a 3-1 lead, only to see Neal Smith score twice for Rogers before May settled the issue.
Matt Weber had the other Rogers goal (power play) along with three penalties.
Mahtomedi outshot the Royals 32-15. Robby Vukelich made 27 saves for Rogers and Sawyer Marshall 11 for Mahtomedi.
