Hockey: Elk girls (5-0) nip Maple Grove 2-1

Elk River-Zimmerman girls hockey has a 5-0 record after squeezing past Maple Grove 2-1 at home on Tuesday evening.

Elk River’s Jonna Curtis scored that shorthanded goal at 15:22 of the first period, assisted by Kaylee Forster, and Maple Grove’s Stephanie Veldhuis scored 21 seconds later on the same power play.

Chelsea Petrich put the Elks back ahead with a goal at 4:15 of the second period, assisted by Curtis and Josie Brown.

Tori Hermann made 30 saves for the Elks and Whitney Paget made 29 for Maple Grove (4-5).

The Elks will play at Eden Prairie (2-2-1) on Thursday evening.
