Basketball: Rogers boys loses opener to Minnetonka 93-83
Rogers was not a bit tentative in opening its season with four new starters Friday evening as the Royals got into a high-scoring duel with the Minnetonka Skippers, losing 93-83 at Minnetonka.
Michael Schreiber, 6-8 center who’s the lone returning starter, was game high with 28 points for Rogers. Senior forward Nick Runge tallied 17 points, senior guard Chase Cleveland 14, and senior forward Austin Barbeln 12.
The Skippers (2-0) sank 11 three-point shots to hold off the Royals. They were led by 6-6 senior center Joe Reisland with 26 points and 6-5 junior guard Riley Dearring with 21.
Rogers hit six 3-pointers (three each by Runge and Barbeln) and cashed 19 of 25 free throws. Minnetonka made 22 of 29 free throws.
Rogers trailed 44-38 at halftime, caught up at 68-68, and fell back as Minnetonka had some success at the free throw line down the stretch.
The Royals will host Zimmerman on Tuesday.
