Wrestling: Elks lose opener to Anoka 45-21

The Elk River wrestlers lost their opener to Anoka 45-21 Thursday evening on the Tornadoes’ mats.

“Anoka is very good, especially in the middle weights,” said Elk coach Paul Nelson. “I was happy with our kids’ effort. They battled against an experienced team with a lot of seniors.”

The Elks got a pin from Kyle Ziemer at 126,  and decisions by Andrew Perry (6-2) at 120, Evan Caldon (5-0) at 132 and Mitch Beaudry (6-5) at 195. Kyle Wiemann at 285 got a forfeit.

The Elks will wrestle at the St. Michael-Albertville Invitational on Saturday.
