Basketball: Royal girls come out firing, beat Princeton 72-37

The Rogers Royals shot 62 percent in the first half on the way to a 72-37 win over the Princeton Tigers in the season opener at home Tuesday evening.

Senior guard Emily Reichert led with 21 points. Also in double digits were Jordyn Motter and Lindsay Dorr with 12 points each and Megan Dobberstein with 10.

“We got out of the gates to start the season with great shooting in the first half,” said coach Jeremy Digiovanni. “There was a stretch early on where it seemed like every shot we put up went in. Those baskets gave the girls a lot of confidence which they played with throughout the entire game.”

After leading 43-23 at the half, the Royals gave up just 14 points in the second half.

Alexcis Funaro led Princeton with 12.

Rogers will play at Spring Lake Park on Thursday.
