Gordon Davis, 88, of Foley, formerly of Elk River, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at the St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by his family.
Mr. Davis was born Oct. 21, 1923, in Otsego, to Andrew L. and Olive B. (Stimson) Davis. He married Nona Wingness Nov. 6, 1945, in Elk River. He worked as a self-employed cement contractor and farmed most of his life near Elk River.
He was a US Army Veteran. Mr. Davis was a talented musician and played the piano, accordion, harmonica and played for many weddings, but mostly played for beer. He also collected old tractors, especially John Deere.
The funeral service took place Friday, Nov. 4 at the Foley Funeral Home Chapel, Foley. Burial was in the Oak Knoll Cemetery, Princeton, with military honors provided by the Foley American Legion, Post 298.
He is survived by his wife, Nona, of Foley; sons and daughter, Mike (Karen) of Oak Park, Jim (Debbie) of Zimmerman, Terry (Mary) of Zimmerman, Pete (Mary) of Princeton, Patty (John) Schmid of Princeton, Bob (Mary) of Hillman, Gord (Anita) of Minneapolis, and Ed (Lori) of Zimmerman; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Bud of Detroit Lakes, Andy of McGregor, and Dick of Monticello.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his sisters, Marion Brauer and Ruth Davis.
