Elk River coach Pam Gothe was honored as Section 7AAA volleyball coach of the year this week. Gothe, head coach for nine years and an assistant prior to that, works in special education as a para at ERHS. Her team reached the section finals this year for the first time since 1999 and finished 16-14.

“It was quite a surprise to get the honor,” said Gothe. “I think that our program has gained respect for the quality of play that we have exhibited for the last several years.  I have excellent coaches working with me with many years of experience and passion for the game – all of them are former Elks, except Brenda Holmgren who was the varsity coach.”

Gothe said that  many years of working with the youth programs has helped to build interest in our sport and increased the skill levels in our feeder programs.

“It has been exciting to see the growth of volleyball in Elk River.”
