Tyler Wicklund, a 24-year-old Elk River man, will spend life in prison for slitting his girlfriend’s throat.
He was sentenced Wednesday in Le Sueur County District Court for the death of 20-year-old Jessica Buboltz last October.
Sherburne County sheriff’s deputies arrested Wicklund after he threatened suicide and admitted to murdering Buboltz in her Kasota apartment.
Wicklund pleaded guilty to one first-degree murder count and one felony charge of felon in possession of a firearm.
Buboltz was Wicklund’s girlfriend and the mother of his 1-year-old child.
A remorseful Wicklund took full responsibility and apologized to Jessica’s family as well as his own at the sentencing
“I am forever on my hands and knees asking for forgiveness,” Wicklund said, according to a Mankato television station report. “Every day so many emotions eat me up inside. Please find it in your hearts to believe me when I say I am truly sorry for what happened … How could I take someone out of this world that so many people loved, including myself?”
