Elk River elementary schools have programs to recognize veterans

Elk River schools are inviting veterans and the community to a series of programs in honor of veterans.

Parker Elementary School will host the Elk River Color Guard at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 for  a Veterans Day program. (There is no school on Veterans Day, so the program is being held early).

Both Parker and Lincoln elementary school students will be present around the Parker flagpole. The Elk River Color Guard will present the colors. Parker students and guests will then move inside the gym for a short program.

Lincoln students and their guests also will have a program inside Lincoln Elementary School.

Students and staff at Twin Lakes Elementary School will honor veterans on Wednesday, Nov. 9. The community is also welcome to attend a coffee reception there at 8:30 a.m., a flag-raising ceremony at 9:20 a.m. by the Elk River Police Honor Guard and a program that follows at 10:30 a.m. in the gym.

To ease parking congestion at the school, there will be shuttles between Twin Lakes Christian Church to the school from 8:15 a.m. until 9 a.m. with return trips starting at 10:30 a.m. The church is located at 18912 Twin Lakes Rd. in Elk River.
Meadowvale Elementary School is also planning a Veterans Day program on Thursday, Nov. 10. There will be a presentation by the Sherburne County Honor Guard at 9:15 a.m. at the flag pole.  The program continues in the Meadowvale gyms at 9:30.  Mark Innerbichler, who will read the book “H is for Honor,” will be the guest speaker.
A slide show featuring the pictures of military family members from Meadowvale will conclude the program.
