The Elk River, Rogers and Zimmerman football teams all have rematches against teams they’ve beaten previously coming up Saturday in the semifinals of their respective sections.
Zimmerman won its Section 6AAA opener 28-14 over Melrose on Tuesday evening. The Elks and Royals had first-round byes. All three schools are top-seeded.
Elk River (6-2) will host Moorhead o Saturday at 2 p.m. in Section 8AAAAA. The Elks beat the Spuds 31-29 on a last-second field goal on Sept. 16. The Spuds (4-5) beat Duluth East 50-30 in the quarterfinals Tuesday.
No. 3 seed Brainerd (6-3) plays at No. 2 St. Cloud Tech (7-2) in the other semifinal. Brainerd beat Cambridge-Isanti 35-10, and Tech edged Buffalo 35-28.
Rogers (7-1) will host Monticello on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Monticello (6-3) beat Big Lake 34-21 in the quarterfinals. The Royals beat Monticello, a conference rival. 29-8 on Sept. 9.
No. 2 seed Delano (7-1) was also idle in the first round. The Tigers will host Becker (6-3), which ousted Princeton 35-8.
Zimmerman (8-1) will host No. 4 Foley (7-2), whom they defeated in conference play 27-13 on Sept. 16, in a night game, 7 p.m. The other semifinal will have No. 6 Albany (6-3) hosting No. 7 Annandale (4-5) as both pulled off upsets of higher seeds.
Championship games in all three sections will be played at St. Cloud State — Section 6AAA on Friday, Nov. 4, at 8 p.m.; Section 8AAAAA on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m.; and Section 5AAAA on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 4 p.m.
