The Elk River swimmers placed fifth among seven teams in the true-team sectionals on Saturday, with Maple Grove winning the title, at St. Cloud Tech.
Maple Grove had 1245 points, Buffalo 992, St. Michael-Albertville 975, Brainerd 870, Elk River 805, St. Cloud Tech 657, Watertown-Mayer 490.
Earning first-place points for the Elks were Courtney Grunewald in the butterfly (1:01.33) and the medley relay team of Emma Johnson, Ali Schwab, Grunewald, and Taylor Odegard (1:57.99).
Placing second were Grunewald in the individual medley (2:15.79) and Schwab in the 50 freestyle (25.59) and breaststroke (1:10.79).
The 400 freestyle team of Tia Volkers, Allison Sterneman, Schwab, and Grunewald placed third (3:55.00). Volkers placed eighth in the 500 freestyle (5:51.73).
The Rogers portion of the team competed in a separate section.
Next for the Elks is a home meet against Armstrong on Tuesday. Under the two-division setup NWSC has had the last two years, the two first-place teams meet for the championship, and the two second-place teams meet for third place. The Elk-Armstrong match is for third place, while Maple Grove duels Centennial for first place.
