Three cheers for support of Elk River band program

Did you cheer for our winning Elks football team at homecoming? I sure did! Did you cheer a little louder when the spirit-filled pep band played? I did! Did you clap for the “mobile” pep band during the homecoming parade?

How about last summer? Did you find yourself tapping your toe at Lions Park Center when the Elk River High School jazz band played at the Independence Day celebration? I did! Did you get out on the dance floor during the swing dance last year? Were you filled with pride at last year’s Veterans Day concert when the band played each armed services theme song as the veterans stood in the audience? I sure was.

On behalf of the Elk River High School Band Boosters, I would like to thank you for your support of the high school bands and invite you to be a part of the terrific lineup we have planned for the 2011–2012 school year! The musicians have made a tremendous commitment to their craft. The band students have to make a decision early on in their high school career to dedicate one credit in their daily curriculum schedule. This means that many students have to take other needed credit classes during the summer or on-line to ensure they fulfill their graduation requirements and college entrance requirements.

Did you also know the Elk River High School jazz band musicians commit to practicing at zero hour two to four times each week? This means arriving at 6:30 a.m. before school starts for jazz band rehearsals! Leading the way is Elk River High School’s director of bands, Mr. John Rosner. A highly talented musician himself; combined with his creativity and vision, he continues to raise the bar of an already superior quality music program. We invite you to check it out for yourself!

Mark your calendars now for our free upcoming fall concerts:

•Halloween concert with the North Suburban Concert Band – Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. Zabee Theater

•Veterans concert with the North Suburban Chorale – Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. Zabee Theater

Thank you to the Elk River Area School Board, the Elk River High School staff, the Elk River area community, the parents and the musicians for your continued support and dedication. We hope to see you in the audience soon, because together we can keep the music playing!
