Soccer: Elk girls lose to Rebels 2-0 in conference finale

The Elk River girls lost their conference finale to Champlin Park 1-0 at home Thursday evening.

Keanna Meinert drilled the game’s lone goal with 22 minutes left. Nicole Schultz was in goal for the shutout.

“We had our chances, again,” said Elk coach Brian Steuter. “We hit the crossbar once, hit the posts twice on corner kicks, and missed a wide open shot from about six yards. Our first touch was a little off all night. But our defense really stuck with it.”

Elk River, scoring just 13 goals in 16 matches, finished 4-6 in the Northwest Suburban. They’re 6-10-1 overall heading into Section 8AA which starts next Thursday.

Kayla Zehowski was in goal for the Elks.

Champlin Park is 2-5-3 in conference and 4-9-3 overall.
