Conference leader Centennial stymied Elk River 2-0 on Thursday evening in Circle Pines.
Cougar junior Jenny Roering punched in her 26th goal of the season in the fourth minute, and Danika Gieske scored on a header off a corner kick in the 67th minute.
“They are a very good team with just one loss all year,” said Elk coach Brian Steuter. “Roering has been scoring a lot since ninth grade and she had a big goal against us last year, too ….They have a decent goalie, but we did not put as many quality shots on her as we should. Everything was right at her.”
Brienna Dehkes was in goal for the Elks (4-5 conference, 5-9-1 overall).
Centennial, ranked No. 9, improved to 7-1-1 in conference and 12-1-2 overall.
The Elks will play at Champlin Park on Thursday evening in the conference finale.
