The Elk River boys placed third among six teams at the Sabre Run in Sartell on Tuesday.

St. Cloud Cathedral, top-ranked in Class A, was the winner, followed by Sartell and the Elks.

Elk junior Ryan Trapp was the team leader, in eighth place with 18:20. The usual No. 1, Lucas Trapp, was not feeling well and dropped out early.

Nicholas Golebioski of Cathedral was first into the chute with 16:39.

The other Elk counting scores were Mitchell Weege in 17th (18:54), Cole Konczal 18th (19:06), Breck Hickman 20th (19:13) and  Nate Webster 21st (19:15).

That was the final regular season meet. Next up is the conference meet at Elk River Golf Club on Thursday, Oct. 13, hosted by the Elks.

“We will be doing speed work between now and then,” said coach Mike Niziolek, “which hopefully will help them drop their times. It’s a very young team, with just two seniors. I know their best performance is yet to come.”
