A Holy Family Catholic team that was much better than Rogers expected handed the Royals a 5-2 setback on Saturday in Rogers.

Maggie Renfro knocked in three goals for the Fire (7-5-2) and Alexis Gannon had the other two. Ashley Hanson was in goal.

“We underestimated them,” said Rogers coach Holly Sutton. “They are a much different team than last year.”

HFC was one of the Royals’ 24 conquests in the state championship year of 2010.

Storm Keyte and Courtney Stutelblerg had the goals for Rogers (8-5).

HFC coach John Tudor said his team has been having an up-and-down year, playing great teams like Wayzata and not-so-great ones like small parochial schools from up north.

The Rogers game was the Fire’s best performance “by a mile,” he said.

Rogers will host St. Michael-Albertville on Tuesday.
