Football: Royals trip Sartell 36-18, stay unbeaten

The Rogers Royals, now the lone occupier of first place in the Mississippi 8, stayed unbeaten with a 36-18 conquest of the Sartell Sabres on Friday evening.

The Royals, 5-0 and ranked No. 4 in Class A, scored 21 straight points in the second half of the non-conference game at Sartell.

With Elk River losing to Becker 49-48, the Royals are the lone Mississippi 8 unbeaten at 3-0.

Jack McGuire carried the ball 15 times for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Kyle Williams also scored twice.

The Royals were vulnerable defensively against the run, giving up 254 yards, but intercepted three Blake Guggenberger passes and held the Sabres to 42 air yards.

Eric McAfee rambled for 147 yards in 11 carries, scoring twice, for Sartell (1-4).

Rogers quarterback Matt Weber hit 8 of 16 passes for 102 yards while the Royals rushed for 216. Andrew Smith caught a 12-yard scoring pass and totaled 86 yards in six catches.

The Royals will host Big Lake at homecoming next Friday.
