Volleyball: Thunder lose to Flyers, beat Princeton
The Zimmerman Thunder split a pair of conference games this week, losing to first-place Little Falls 3-1 and beating Princeton 3-0.
Little Falls (7-0 in conference) fended off the Thunder 20-25, 26-25, 25-21, 25-18 Tuesday. Nikki O’Keefe made 13 kills, Brooke Borchardt 13, and Janae Mettling eight. Emily Garmen made 24 digs, Amanda Melene 14 and Abby Kratzke 13. Melene made 29 assists. Serving 100 percent were O’Keefe, Morgan Inman, Melene and Mettling.
In the 25-18, 25-14, 25-17 win over Princeton on Parents Night on Thursday, O’Keefe led with 13 kills, seven aces and 10 digs. Borchardt had six kills and Mettling and Amber Magnuson five each. Efficient in the back row were Garmen with 13 digs and Kratzke with nine, each with a 2.3 passing rating. Melene made 27 assists. Mettling served 100 percent with two aces.
“They were two great volleyball games,” said Thunder coach Rita Belka. “The girls played well in both.”
Zimmerman, 2-4 in the Granite Ridge and 6-10 overall, will play at Monticello on Tuesday.
