Elk River scored early and held on to beat a team higher in the standings, Osseo, 1-0 there Monday evening in NWSC girls soccer.
Emily Lewis had the lone goal of the match, in the second minute. When Logan Daulton advanced the ball toward he end line, an Osseo defender got the ball but wanted to avoid a corner kick s she sent it right to the middle, where Lewis was able to one-time it into the net, far post.
Brienna Dehkes in goal made seven saves.
“We struggled getting the last pass in behind them to break free the rest of the game,” said coach Brian Stueter. “Our defense held up,”
Two subs helped out in the defensive effort with Rachel Mynahan stepping in for Jenna Kivley, who sprained here ankle Saturday against Roger, while freshman Emma Triton made her varsity debut and played well.
The Elks are 3-4 in conference and 4-8-1 overall. Osseo is 3-2-2 and 6-3-2.
The Elks will host Armstrong on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
