Samantha Schulze was only 15 years old when she first started working at Flowers Plus of Elk River.
Early on she showed promise as a budding florist. When one of her co-workers saw a bouquet Schulze had made, she predicted that Schulze would be a florist one day.
It wasn’t something Schulze had anticipated doing in the future, but she ended up loving it.
Today, Schulze is the new owner of Flowers Plus. She bought the business from Cindy Delorme and Deb Frette at the first of the year.
A 2008 graduate of Elk River High School, Schulze said she learned a lot on the job from the former owners. “They kind of taught me everything I know,” she said. She also has taken some floral classes and has a certificate in business.
Flowers Plus is located at 518 Freeport Ave. Schulze said they do flowers for all occasions including weddings, funerals and everyday celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries.
She likes the variety and the creativity of the job and the fact that each day is different. She also likes meeting people and brightening their day with flowers.
“You just know you’re making people’s days,” she said.
In addition to fresh flowers, Flowers Plus also sells giftware, a variety of vases, plush animals, silk arrangements, wreaths, and accessories such as candle holders, angels and birds.
The store is open from 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday. For more information call 763-441-2598 or go online at eflowersplus.net. Flowers Plus is also on Facebook at facebook.com/flowersplusofelkriver.
