Cross country: Elks run at big Griak meet

The Elk River cross country team ran in the state’s largest meet, the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota, on Saturday.

The girls team placed 31st in the Gold (higher) division, and the boys placed 25th in the Maroon division, at the U’s golf course in Falcon Heights.

Top five Elk girls were Chelsea Schlegel, 66th in 20:17; Rachel Ness, 78th in 20:26; Anna Haugen, 102nd in 21:27; Gabrielle Young, 227th at 21:48; and Maria Brown,  233rd in 21:52.

Top five Elk boys were Lucas Trapp, 55th in 17:56; Ryan Trapp, 92nd in 18:23; Cole Konczol, 147th in 18:48; Breck Hickman, 164th in 188:54; and Blake Thompson, 224th in 19:24.

Next for the Elks is the Red Wing Invitational on Friday.
