Soccer: Elk girls edge Pirates 1-0

The Elk River girls posted their second shutout win of the week, 1-0 over Park Center in a conference duel at home Thursday evening.

Abby McDonald scored the lone goal of the game with Josie Brown assisting, in the third minute of he second half. On a free kick, Jenna Kivley crossed the ball to the far post, where Brown won it and redirected it to McDonald’s foot.

Brienna Dehkes was in the nets, making six saves. Brown in the middle led a stout defensive effort.

The Elks beat St. Cloud Tech 2-0 on Monday, got pounded by Maple Grove 6-1 Tuesday but came back strong.

The win gives the Elk a 2-4 conference mark and 3-7-1 overall. The Pirates are 3-3-1 and 4-5-1.

Elk River will host Rogers on Thursday in a doubleheader, girls at 11 a.m. and boys at 1 p.m.
