Nine-mile chase nets charges for false name, fleeing and DWI
A 20-year-old Elk River man was cited for DWI, giving a false name, driving after revocation, no proof of insurance and fleeing an officer after leading Elk River police on a nine-mile chase on the night of Sept. 11.
He was stopped for a driving violation in the 17800 block of Cleveland Street. He gave an Elk River officer a name, and as the officer walked back to his squad, the motorist put his car in gear and fled.
The officer pursued the vehicle along with other officers for over nine miles until the driver crashed his vehicle into a curb near the intersection of Anoka County roads 47 and 5 in Ramsey where he was apprehended.
It was discovered that the driver had given a false name.
