Volleyball: Rogers loses to champ, wins twice at Sauk Rapids tourney
The Rogers Royals lost to the eventual champion in the first round, then won twice and officially placed ninth among 16 teams at the Sauk Rapids-Rice Invitational on Saturday.
Wadena-Deer Creek repelled the Royals 25-22, 25-16, with 12 hitting errors hurting the Royals.
The Royals (10-4) then pulled out two close ones, beating Kimball 21-25, 25-9, 15-13 with 31 kills, and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 25-15, 22-25, 15-13 with 33 kills.
The Royals enjoyed balanced hitting all three matches, with Lizzy Meyer totaling 20 kills, Bre Westberg 19, Steph Gellerman 17, Claire Martinez 16, and Jordyn Moter 14.
They also had high-percentage serving all day, just five errors in 159 attempts, with 12 aces.
Junior libero Abby Folk was the defensive leader as usual with 57 digs and 63 serve receives. Maddie Schaefer was the top setter.
Rogers will play at Mounds View on Monday.
