College athletes: Finkbeiner gets all-tourney honor at LaSalle

Rachel Finkbeiner, sophomore from Elk River on the LaSalle University volleyball team in Philadelphia, made the all-tournament team at the LaSalley Invitational on Aug. 26-27. She notched 27 kills, three aces, and seven digs in three matches. She was also named LaSalle student athlete of the week. For the season she’s fifth on the team with 60 kills and third with 11 blocks. The Explorers have a 3-9 record. LaSalle is a Division I private Catholic college.

Jack Gavin, junior cornerback from Elk River on the powerful St. Thomas football team, has made eight tackles and one pass interception in two victories. The Tommies (2-0) have two freshmen from Rogers on the roster, Derek Vidor and Ryan Williams, both defensive backs.

Matt Gandrud, junior receiver from Elk River on the Bemidji State football team, has caught five passes for 78 yards. The team is 2-0.

Colleen Reeves, freshman defender from Rogers, has started all six games for the University of South Dakota soccer team that’s 4-2. She scored her first college goal against Nebraska-Omaha in a 3-2 loss.

Rhaya Ballon, junior forward from Rogers on the University of North Dakota soccer team, has two goals in seven games. The team is 2-4-1. Her sister Aliha Ballon is a freshman forward, appearing in one game so far.
