Jean Catherine Bettinger, 77, of Oak Grove, formerly of Nowthen and Isanti, died peacefully at home Friday, Sept. 2, 2011.
She was born May 28, 1934, in Nowthen to Edward and Stella Mevissen. She graduated from Elk River High School in 1952. On Aug. 1, 1953, she married Louis Bettinger at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Anoka. They settled Burns Township where they farmed. Mrs. Bettinger worked for Burns Township and was the town clerk for Nowthen and she was also an election judge.
In 1985 they moved to Wahkon, Minn. to enjoy their retirement fishing and boating on Mille Lacs Lake with their kids and grandkids.
She was devoted to church and was involved with bake sales and religious education. She loved being with her family and also enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, crocheting, cooking and baking. Her homemade buns were especially enjoyed by her family.
Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, Sept. 6 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Isanti with the Rev. Kevin Anderson as celebrant. Pallbearers were Amy Ryther, Christopher Bettinger, Paul Glaze, Justin Bettinger, Patrick Dahlheimer, Timothy Meyers, Jason Bettinger, Nick Bettinger, Wayne Tichy and Danielle Kamps. Her other grandchildren and great-grandchildren were honorary pallbearers. Interment was in Christ the King Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel.
Mrs. Bettinger will be remembered by her daughters, Linda (Bill) Ryther, Mary (Paul) Dahlheimer, Carol (Mike) Tichy, Paula (Joe) Glaze, Julie Meyers, and Ruth (Brad) Kamps; sons, Randy (Josie), Gary (Becky), and James (Cheryl); daughter-in-law, Dona; brother, Melvin (Sue) Mevissen; 28 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; son, Leon; sisters, Dorothy and Mabel; and brothers, Lawrence, Andrew, Robert, Herman, Donald, Harold and Merle.
