Cross country: Elk girls 14th at big Hopkins meet

The Elk River girls placed 14th among 16 teams at the Bauman/Rovn Invitational, featuring several of the state’s top teams, on Thursday.

The meet, hosted by Hopkins, was run at Gale Woods Farm.

Chelsea Schlegel led the Elks, placing 21st in 15:54. Other counting scores were Anna Haugen in 65th (16:55), Gabielle Jung 109th (18:06), Candice Niemes 114th (18:13) and Kailey Erdahl 132nd (18:25).

Lakeville South won, followed by Eden Prairie and Edina. The individual winner was Armstrong’s Emily Knapczyk in 15:04.

The Elk boys ran incomplete. Breck Hickman was 73rd (18:28), Blake Thompson 83rd (18:48) and Cole Konczal 117th (20:05).

Eden Prairie was boys team winner and freshman Joe Duerr of Chaska was first into the chute in 16:01.

The Elks will run at St. Francis next Thursday.
