Aundria Speidel of Rogers captured a sweepstakes blue ribbon at the Minnesota State Fair for items of jewelry she made last year in art class at RHS.

A necklace and errings set, called “Ocean Finesse,” made by Speidel, 18, placed first in the Coordinated Set Metal Works category under Jewelry.  She also got the sweepstakes blue ribbon, measured against the blue ribbon winners of all categories.

“I took a jewelry class last year,” said the 2011 graduate, “and Mrs. Sebghati helped me. I used a puau shell, not a stone, on sterling silver.”

The jewerly (pictured) is on display in the Creative Arts building.

Judges choose the top 25 entrants in each category to display, and give first, second and third ribbons.

Speidel plans to attend Hamline with the goal of becoming a veterinarian.
