Football: Royals pound Sauk Rapids-Rice 33-0

The Rogers Royals started what they hope will be another Prep Bowl season by pummeling Sauk Rapids-Rice 33-0 at home on Thursday evening.
Matt Weber, taking over the quarterback slot along with his outside linebacker dutiies, led the victory with two touchdowns running and another passing. The 6-foot-5 senior had a one-yard TD sneak in the second quarter, passed to Austin Derouin for a 22-yard score in the third, and broke away for a 46-yard touchdown scamper later in the third.
Nate Roehl and Kyle Williams also ran for touchdowns, while Williams totaled 88 yards in nine carries, leading Rogers’ 262-yard ground game.
Rogers, state runner-up last year in Class 4A, will open conference play at Monticello next Friday.
