A new veterans memorial is planned for the Sherburne History Center  in Becker to honor men and women from Sherburne County who have served in one of five branches of U.S. armed forces.
Proposed near a history center driveway entrance, it will serve as a memorial to veterans from every era and every wartime conflict. It will also serve to welcome visitors to the history center.
A memorial marker 3 feet wide by 5 feet high will read: “Sherburne County Veterans Memorial … Dedicated in memory of the men and women of the armed forces who served their country in times of peace and war.”
Three American flags will be stationed around the memorial and lighted continuously.
A 30-foot round patio of pavers will encircle the memorial and flags. It will also include a 20-foot-long sitting wall and landscaping.
Approved by Sherburne County commissioners Aug. 16, the project will cost up to $32,257.
Bids are still being sought for the memorial project which should be completed some time this fall.
