Verna E. Beckman, 91, of Elk River, died peacefully Saturday, July 30, 2011.
She was the school cook at St. Andrew’s Catholic School for 11 years. She loved to garden, crochet, can and make paper butterflies.
According to her family, Mrs. Beckman was known to make the best frozen strawberry jam this side of the Mississippi. She was also a member of Christian Mothers.
Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, Aug. 4 at the Church of St. Andrew in Elk River. Interment was at St. Andrew’s parish cemetery.
Mrs. Beckman is survived by daughter-in-law, Lydia Mevissen; grandsons, Jerry and Rob Mevissen; great-granddaughter, Jazz Mevissen; brother, Loren Koehler; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lawrence Mevissen and Vernon Beckman; son, Jim Mevissen; sister, Judy Trendol; and brother, Ernie Koehler.
Memorials are preferred to St. Andrew’s Catholic Church or Guardian Angels Care Center.
