Donald J. “Dude” Milless, 88, of Rogers, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at his home.
He was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Rogers, to John and Flora (Deschene) Milless.
After graduating from Elk River High School in 1941, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed on the USS Cowpens, an aircraft carrier, which was the first U.S. naval ship to arrive in Tokyo Bay on Aug. 27, 1945.
On Oct. 14, 1950, he and Rose Marie Rouillard were married at St. Martin’s Church in Rogers.
Mr. Milless owned and operated Milless Sinclair Service in Rogers for many years. He later was employed at Federal Cartridge for 18 years. Upon retirement, he worked at Auction Masters in Rogers.
Mr. Milless was a faithful, lifetime member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church and belonged to Knights of Columbus Council No. 11941. He also was a lifetime member of The Elk River/Rogers V.F.W. Post No. 5518. He served many years as a volunteer on the Rogers Fire Department.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Aug. 2 at Mary Queen of Peace-St. Martin Campus in Rogers. Interment was at St. Martin Cemetery. His grandchildren served as casket bearers. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rose Marie; children, Becky (Jerry) Eull of Eagle River, Alaska, Kathy Carron of St. Michael, Don (Maureen) of Motley, and Bill (fiancée Amy Lind); 12 grandchildren; great-grandchild and special buddy, Suede “Buck” Milless; brothers, Henry “Heinie” (Ora), Edwin, Robert “Bib” (Alice), and John “Jack” (Jerry); sister, Joanne (Ron) Bourgeois; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerome (Ferdella) Gmach and Carmen Hawkins; 75 nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Mr. Milless was preceded in death by sisters and a brothers, Florence, Corrine Caron, Adrian, Bernice Bobendrier, Melvin “Buster,” Dorothy Bistodeau and Merriam “Maisie” Gmach.
