Softball: Zins Chiropractic cruises to women’s ‘C’ championship

Zins Chiropractic completed its dominant 2011 season in the Elk RiverĀ  Women’s Softball League by rolling to the Class C playoff championship Wednesday evening at Orono Park.

Zins won 13-3 over Warrior Manufacturing in the finals, launched by Estee Kolles blasting a three-run homer in the first inning. They were 23-1 in league play and 3-0 in playoffs.

“This is a new team,” said manager and sponsor Steve Zins, “with players off four different teams from last year. We’re from all over the (northwest metro) area.”

Zins, which also plays in a Brooklyn Center league on Tuesdays, is 50-5 overall. They will play in two state tournaments — ASA in Monticello on Aug. 13-14 and USSSA in Blaine on Aug. 20-21 — and plan to be a nationals Labor Day weekend in Eagan, said Steve Zins.

The lineup includes pitcher Brenda Summerdorf, catcher Sandy Notsch, Bre Worobel at first, Candi Gaston at second, Tracy Bohall at third and Missy Hoeft at short, and outfielders Estee Kolles, Jen Beres, Kristi Kirk, Sam Schroeder, Lisa Dorle and Stacey Rewitzer.
